I’m Richard Leyland, host of the Marketing Hell podcast, a podcast that picks through the rubble of our most spectacular marketing failures.
I came to Fusion Logo Design when I only had a podcast idea, and I needed a logo as a first and key asset. A good logo would help me to create a podcast pitch that I could use to secure my first few interviewees, which is what would get the podcast off the ground.
As this is a passion project – not commercial, at least in the first season – I’m funding it out of personal funds. I’m happy to invest my own funds like this but it does mean I need to be careful about how much money I commit. This meant I needed a professional logo at an affordable price and to work with a provider that could help design something good even when the brief was a little broad. I expected it would take a few iterations, so had to be confident that this could be handled reasonably and quickly by the provider.
I’d done a fair bit of research with potential logo designers and in the end took the decision that Fusion Logo Design were the best option. This decision was based mainly on the fact that I’d get two options to select from, that the price was affordable (actually the price was better than affordable, it was excellent) and that the site had positive reviews from people that I could see actually exist!
After committing it took about two days to get my initial design concepts back and 3 iterations before I arrived at the final design, which you can see above. I was pleased with the simplicity and bold use of red. This logo is ideal for purpose – It’s straight-forward, balanced and easily readable when seen as a thumbnail. The logo also strikes a good balance between humour and seriousness, which is what my podcast tries to do. If I was launching a new business and the financial stakes were higher then I’d spend more time on the brief and work more closely with the designer but based on my experience with Fusion I’d happily use them for that more technically involved process too.
We’re now live and our audience numbers are going up and up. I’m happy with the logo, which was a key step in moving from an idea to a launched and growing podcast. It meant we could begin to create supporting assets. We pitched the idea to several potential guests and confirmed three high value bookings quite quickly. Inviting guests to an unlaunched podcast requires the guest to take a leap of faith, which is made easier when a good logo makes the idea seem tangible and real.
One final point I’d make is that people needing a new logo might think that the price is too low – will the logo quality be correspondingly low? That was certainly something I considered, but I’m happy to report that I got great value. I have a simple equation in my mind that considers the low fee I paid and the value of the outcome and feel very confident I made the right decision to choose Fusion.
